The twelve pages of the specifications of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) relating to diving watches indeed list with precision the indispensable qualities of a “wristwatch that must withstand a dive in water to a depth of at least 100 meters and have a time control system.” Thus, the general requirements of a professional diving watch recognized as such by ISP 6425 are – among others – a minimum water resistance of 100 meters, the presence of a time presetting device (a unidirectional rotating bezel and graduated 60 minutes) that must be protected against unintentional rotation or mishandling.
