Oris continues its partnership with Australia’s Royal Flying Doctor Service. The result is a second pilot’s watch, produced in a limited edition of 2,000.A watch dedicated to an aeromedical rescue organizationThe Royal Flying Doctor Service is an Australian “aeromedical” service organization created in the late 20s by Reverend Flynn, who had already had the idea at heart for over 10 years. In fact, it’s one of the world’s most emblematic aeromedical emergency rescue organizations. Its mission is to bring medical aid to isolated populations throughout Australia. The Royal Flying Doctor Service has more than 60 aircraft – including a Swiss Pilatus PC-12 – spread across the country. In 2013, Oris had already partnered this non-profit institution for the first time, and is once again reiterating its partnership with the Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II.A Big Crown Day-Date in 45 mmInspired by the iconic Big Crown collection, the Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II features an oversized crown. Any pilot’s watch must be reliable and offer optimal legibility. This 45 mm stainless steel version is no exception: its black dial is contrasted with Super-LumiNova®-coated hands, numerals and hour markers.About the circumference of the dial, the pulsometric scale stands out in its orange color: an eye-catching hue that quickly catches the eye and is reminiscent of the Australian Outback, the main workplace of the Royal Flying Doctor Service teams. The pulsometric scale displays the patient’s heart rate very quickly – after just 20 beats. The scale is mounted on a bezel that can be rotated with the bi-directional rotating bezel to calculate the heart rate at any time. The bezel also features a 12-hour scale for reading a second time zone. This function is also important, as Australia is divided into three time zones. Note the presence of the organization’s logo at 12 o’clock, which is also engraved on the caseback, water-resistant to 30 meters. This version is adorned with a smooth stitched leather strap fitted with a steel pin buckle.Engine sideThis Big Crown Pointer Date is powered by Oris Calibre 735, which the brand developed from a Sellita SW220-1 base. This caliber features a “Day/Date” complication at three o’clock, displays the time precisely. The self-winding mechanism is driven by Oris’ characteristic red rotor. A 38-hour power reserve is available when the watch is not worn on the wrist. In briefA watch with a timeless design and a diameter of 45 mmAn automatic caliber with Day/Date complicationA limited edition of 2000 pieces
